A group of my friends and I schedule a crazy amount of friendly scrimmages just to test how various DEs go up against various OTs. Here's the result: (not pretty)

DE with 100 speed, 70 agility, 55 str - no sacks against any OT that's 70-90str/70-90blocking. The only success he had was against a gutted OT that's 40 str and 40 blocking.

DE with 70 speed, 100 agility, 50s str - no sacks against any OT that's 70-90str/70-90 blocking. Almost no success agaisnt OT that's 40str/40 blocking.

DE with 90 str, 70 speed, 70 agility - no sacks against any OT that's 70-90str/70-90agility. Decent success against gutted 40/40 OT.

Conclusion: Bort seems to really reduced the effectiveness of agility on the DE. This may explain why most DE owners report that there DE isn't doing anything on defense anymore. Str seems to play a little more role, but still not as effective. Speed is of no use if your DE can't get off the line.

To be totally honest, this information needs SAs to be more useful.

1st DE (100 speed) Pass rush tree is: 6-5-5-9-1
2nd DE (70 speed) Pass rush tree is: 5-4-6-9-2
3rd DE (90 str) Pass rush tree is: 9-4-6-11-1

There

I would like to see DE #1 with the SAs of DE #3.

The 3rd has the best SA's and im surprised the faster de's do not have more FS.

IMO de's have changed this year and nobody has caught on to the changes with the introduction of a higher rate of reverse pancakes DE's have to have more strength. What I believe and would be curious to see for a pure pass rusher would be str=agi>spd with points in strong base, shed block/first step and tunnel vision. maybe about 7-9 in strong base and 5-7 in TV then the quick VA and heaveyweight. Hopefully the build would be able to use str + strong base to push the OT back and agility + shed block + TV to cut in and sack the Qb. Of course on the boards every high str DE experiment has invested heavily in the pass rush tree and nuttin in the containment so it's hard to see if my theory has any truth to it. I can tell you my balanced DE tends to get more tackles, sacks and pass deflections then other more specialized DE's.

Containment won't do jack squat for sacking the qb

So...basically build a DE to be a DT clone...

ugh.

Yea pretty much. Different SA's and perhaps more vision then required for a DT. Like I said though it's just a theory I'm not sure if it would work out. I know for sure that strong base is alot more effective this season then it was last.

I guarantee no good pass-rushing DT is str=agi>spd, so it's more like building a DE like a good season 2 DT.

Base or with EQ? I could see one being competent at base.

Oh, EQ, I'm pretty much str=agi>spd base.

That's what I was thinking. I was pretty sure the prevailing view for just about any DT, no matter what role, was 68-68-48(+). Got me thinking for a second there.

I have a all strength DE (92 strength) (65 agility/speed), and he's not doing anything unless it's a OT 9 Levels under him or a terrible build.
