Sorry Ive been gone boys heres some week 8 stuff (I am adopting the rule of 50
--Use the comments from the picks for my power rankings lol
4077th M*A*S*H (0-7) vs. Colorado Tombstones (0-7)The hospital needs some medical attention after a not so sterile start to the season. They'll be playing some gravemarkers of the dead here this week so that will notch them win 1 on the season and we'll go from there.4077th by 35
Awendaw ToadFish (1-6) vs. Manila Warlords (2-5)--This is a matchup of 2 struggling teams who have played teams tough but juat haven't been able to pull off the upsets. Manila has lost to the Hustlers, Yaks and Bulls all by much larger margins than the Toadfish have. Manila has a HUGE levels advantage but we've been saying this for years now "On paper, they are a great team that should be playoff-bound" I just can't ignore their defensive liabilities. They'll put up points..but will lose in the shootout. Toadfish by 17
Port Moresby Titans (1-6) vs. Singapore Bulls (5-2) --Singapore is tied with the Yaks for the best record among promoted teams but unlike the Yaks have not been particularly impressive to date with a close win over the Toadfish and a head to head loss to the Yaks. They have only 1 quality win (Hustlers) and have a grinder of a 2nd half schedule. While not in peak form, that makes this team even more dangerous down the stretch once they find their stride. The Titans were competitive against Bandar and Highlanders at start of season but competitive doesn't win games and they now have 4 30+ point losses in a row..this team is still one season away from playoff contention (I hope they notice this and do not fold). Bulls by 21
Singapore Flames (2-5) vs. Hong Kong Highlanders (5-2)--This Singapore team has had some tough losses so far against Krungthep and South Austin and may be a team that hasnt found their groove. Looking at their schedule they may very well be 2-11 if they dont step up with 6 top 9 teams in a row in a hellhole of a 6 game stretch. The Highlanders may be the hardest team in Garuda to figure out surrounding HUGE wins over TBP and Semarang with a blowout loss to Bangkok Tweetys and a rather inexplicable loss to the Toadfish. Could be anywhere from a title contender to bottom 4 team depending on the day. Consistency is what they need but the talent and potential is undoubtedly there. I considered the upset here but (unless HKH stinks it up like the Awendaw game) Highlander prevails in this one HKH by 14
South Austin Bats (3-4) vs. Hong Kong Hustlers (4-3)--Much like the Flames, South Austin has a tough stretch ahead that could result in a losing streak. The 4 game grinder starts now and gets no easier with games against the Yaks, LSP and the Bulls after. This stretch could end their playoff hopes quickly or help catapult them into the top 8. I'll hold off on that and just predict this one. Bats are among the most difficult species to hustle but there ain't no Hustlers like the ones from Hong Kong. Hustlers by 7
Semarang Red Bulls (4-3) vs. Yokohama Yaks (5-2)--The Yaks are performing well and pretty much as expected, stomping 4 teams they should, beating Singapore Bulls in a tough game and getting beat by Garuda superpowers LSP and TBP handily. They are on track for a home playoff game but that definitely won't be easy with Semarang thinking the same thing. The Red Bulls have been more up and down but that is the product of a harder schedule with a tough loss to Ho Chi, 2 losses to Bangkok/Highlanders to go with the Seamen win and a great, down to the wire, much needed win over the Hustlers. Harder strength of schedule and 4-3 isn't a bad place to be with the schedule they've had. However, the Yaks have owned Semarang in the past and I think that gives them the confidence edge. HUGE upset alert here as I don't think you can call it an upset no matter who wins. Very hard game to pick..Yaks by 3
LSP (7-0) vs. Taiwan Blood Pandas (4-3)---LSP is rolling through their schedule and while in 2nd place to the Tweetys because of points tiebreaker, I don't think there's any question who is more scary of those 2 teams. TBP is the defending conference champs but thanks to Ho Chi did not have to face their much maligned nemesis. and right now, the Pandas are playing very solid the last 2 weeks with a boring FG battle win with the Hustlers and a convincing win over the Yaks that showed their offense is back. TBP has yet to beat LSP since they hit the Pro level and I'm not about to jinx that. pick em, or tie (Tommie Frazier doesnt know theres ties though
that joke coming from a diehard Eagles fan lol
Bangkok Tweetys (7-0) vs. Ho Chi Mean Hot Mamas (6-1)--Normally it would be sin to dare predict an undefeated 1st place team to lose but just here me out. The Hot Mamas drew one of the "Big 3" in Manila for their crossover game and lost in a close, defensive battle. They then proceeded to beat Manila Warlords, Toadfish and Port Moresby by 61-66 points apiece. In comparison, LSP beat those teams by 31-35 (though we may have eased off a bit more). Bigratuno and Co. have cooled off on the blowouts a bit but have followed with 3 close, solid wins over TBP, Semarang and South Austin. Damn well may be playing the best in Garuda right now but that pesky loss will keep us from knowing for now. In other words, Bangkok is a nice team, a very good team in fact and are playing much better than they have since the early seasons B.ESL a. Co (before ESL and company for those not familiar with Biblical quotations). They may secure a home playoff spot but their 7-0 record is a bit misleading as they have beat only 2 tough teams IMO. They may very well prove me wrong but I see some Hot Mamas taking out one of the last 2 undefeateds. Hot Mamas by 7
