There were many suggestions to make the tourney i run every season an invitational. I was wondering what everyone thought about changing it to an invitational or keep it sign ups?

I don't think it would matter much. The level of competition has risen every season regardless.

I think you should do invitational... if a few teams refuse you open their position for sign ups...

Invitational would add more prestige to the tournament. If the goal is to make it the top teams in the league then that would really bring a level of ranking teams to GLB.

Invitational would be interesting. You might see some teams that are 6th or 7th seeds as 14th or 15th seeds if you can get some of the really strong Pro & AAA teams in this.

if you do invitational, I'd be willing to set up a private forum and any committee members could have discussions about who to invite there.

You could send out invites to, say, 16-32 teams and then allow everybody who doesn't get an invite (by say day 25 or so of this year) to post in a thread who would want to fill the spots. You take the teams who accept the invite and fill from there with the teams that you want from whoever posts in the signup thread by day 40ish (or whenever you usually cut it off).

Of course I only say that because I'm interested in getting our team into this next season and that might not happen if it goes to invite-only . Of course auto-bids should go out to the elite 8 or final 4 of the previous year.

I suggest:

Do a sign up list and do invitational for maybe the top 32-48 slots and then take 16-32 sign up add ins.

Why?

because not everyone you invite will agree to come and that way you have a ready pool of teams willing to step in and be a part of the bracket.

Also like Hazy's idea of having a selection committee although you see to be doing great on your own Landry-it could become more work as you make it invitational.
