can you set it so the DEs can do some zone stuff and go out to the respective rights and lefts instead of rushing the QB?

Little help?
Stop running the 4-3 against a set with 3 WR's? That's gotta be the most glaringly obvious AI problem. Fix that first.

If you use a dime defense against the single back formation, the screen usually gets squashed pretty easily, because the blocking WR gets overloaded. However, good scouting would help to find out how often and in what situations the other team is running the screen, so you can plan a little better.
As ddingo stated, not using a 4-3 would be your starting point!

Thanks guys. Fixed the 4-3 problem.
This is my first season as D-coordinator so trying to iron out the kinks.

I thought it was obvious he changed his defense to run nickel or dime against a 3wr set rather than a 4-3

Team hasn't played a game since the blunders so I have no idea if what I did works.

I just scouted a bunch of teams [I D-Co 4 of them] and the WR Screen just isn't the same this year. Since BORTIE rectified the WR being able to block 3 people, the play is seen less and less. Also, D-Co's have figured out better ways to stop that play while preserving the integrity of defending the Single Back.
3-3-5 can work. If they never run the HALFBACK SCREEN, you can cheat to the weak-side with a shift, too. Cover 2 puts the FS on that side of the field.
As I said though, its getting a little more rare to see it.

You can use a 4-3 defense, Cover 0, man to man with strong side shift and I have found that will stop it just leaves you open to a couple other plays is the problem.

A good OC will notice this and burn you with the HB Slam out of the Single Back.

See post several locations higher; Do not run a 4-3 against a 3 WR set!

Great option and will help cover the HB Screen that a good OC will also run out of this set, but you can not blitz in this formation so you have to worry about 1 on 1 match ups with other receivers, but probably your best option.

Why don't you try playing or GM'ing for a team in a higher league before you pass judgments. I use that very setup on my team in USA AAA against harder opponents than you will play all season. It works with proper builds.
