Was a hard week to pick for a couple of reasons.. One, we have a shitload of great teams this season. Two, I'm not very familiar with several of them. I think we're in for a great season with a lot of close games, it should be good.
Macau Gamblers at Hong Kong Highlanders:
The last time these two played each other was back in Season 4, when HKH handed Macau a 49-14 drubbing. Both teams have improved significantly since then and I expect the result to be closer this time around. Both teams have questions regarding a lack of depth at certain positions, and bigger questions regarding too much depth at others (do you really need 3 QBs or 5 Kickers?). If either team wants to make noise in the postseason, they'll need to come up with some answers. HIGHLANDERS by 9
Portland Dirty Penguins at Yokohama Yaks:
This should be a great battle, featuring one of AAA#1's best against the #2 team from AAA#2. Both newcomers will be looking to make a name for themselves and prove that they belong in Pro, and a good way to do it is by knocking off other top new talents. The two squads look fairly evenly matched, but I think the Yaks will have trouble keeping pace late in the game after staying close for 3 quarters. DIRTY PENGUINS by 7
Manila Warlords at Phuket All:
"Fuck it All" apparently means a round the world trip. The Warlords will enjoy every orifice imaginable as Phuket bends to please them. I'm tempted to break my "rule of 35" for this game, it's going to be brutal. WARLORDS by 36(!)
Tokyo Whalers at Hong Kong Hustlers:
Hong Kong has apparently found a way to hustle the Scheduling committee because they just scored about the easiest cross-conference home game possible. HKH will rob these guys blind. Don't worry Whalers, demotion to a kinder league is just 40 days away. HUSTLERS by 35
Singapore Bulls at Chaiyaphum Gothic:
Will this be the "Running of the Bulls (Goth Edition)" or will Chaiyaphum find a way to skin Singapore for materials for all their leather needs? Gothic are not at Pro's top level yet, but they've managed to survive here a while. The Bulls will have to show they can win games like these if they want to stick around. BULLS by 14
Pa Dong Dragons at 4077th M*A*S*H:
One of the best (if not the best) teams in AAA#1 has only gotten better this year, bringing in AA#1 Pro Bowl regular DE Rawr Rawr along with other quality signings. We'll see if Voltron is able to get the same kind of stats against much better talent. Pa Dong kicks ass in the regular season, but seems to suffer from a postseason curse. They will have no trouble running up the score against the 4077th. DRAGONS by 35
Semarang Red Bulls at Bangkok Seamen:
At first glance most would expect the Seamen to roll over the Red Bulls, but I'm not so sure. Semarang possesses some of the best coaching minds in GLB and despite their disadvantages in levels and on the scouting bars, I'm sure they'll find a way to make a game of it. Still, Bangkok is scary good and will be difficult to overcome. SEAMEN by 12
Louisiana Screaming Pelicans at Singapore Marauders:
It's screaming against singing in this battle between two of the top contenders for the shiny gold trophy. Should be a tremendous battle, and could go either way, but I see the Pelicans flying away in victory. SCREAMING PELICANS by 3
Port Moresby Titans at Bandar Lampung Pigskin Pirates:
These two teams played last year at Port Moresby and the Titans got schooled. Apparently they didn't learn enough, because the Pigskin Pirates will be repeating the lesson for them. PIGSKIN PIRATES by 27
Taiwan Blood Pandas at East St. Louis Tire Fires:
The schedule offers us quite a treat in week 1, a rematch of the Season 6 League Championship game. Both teams are among the best in GLB, and the this will be a clash of titans. The Tire Fires burn bright, but I think the Pandas thirst for revenge will be enough to extinguish them. BLOOD PANDAS by 3
Manila Hitmen at Ho Chi Mean Hot Mamas:
These two teams put on a heck of a show when they scrimmaged last season. The Hitmen controlled the ground game, but the Hot Mamas excelled in the air. The Mamas won a close one but things could easily go differently this time around. I expect Manila to hit on the Hot Mamas, but not in the "let's go back to my place" kind of way. HITMEN by 10
P-Funk Allstars at South Austin Bats:
This game features two teams which both share roots in AAA#1. South Austin advanced before P-funk did, but I think the Allstars are probably the better squad. P-Funk will look to get their groove on early. ALLSTARS by 13
Duluth Bulldogs at Bangkok Tweetys:
The Bulldogs were alpha males in AAA#2 but now they are just one of the pack. Bangkok Tweetys may not be top-rung, but they are a legitimate Pro playoff team. Duluth will have to be at the top of their game to get past Bangkok. TWEETYS by 10
Krungthep Garudas at Singapore Flames:
Yet another big game in the Garudas-Flames history, these teams have several games between them including two League Championship matches. Both teams have shown that they can win, and this will be an excellent game to watch. It's going to be a squeaker, but the Garudas will rise to the occasion. GARUDAS by 3
Colorado Tombstones at Kamakura Katanas:
Looks like Kamakura won the bye-week lottery. There is no way Colorado can hang with the Katanas, and the score may reach triple digits. Expect to see yet more tombstones on the Colorado landscape. KATANAS by 35
Awendaw Toadfish at Lost City Idols:
Toadfish are a good team and will do well this season, but they got a rough draw in AAA#2 powerhouse Lost City Idols. They'll do their best to keep it close, but the Idols have punished teams better than them. IDOLS by 17
