What do you all think? I like bruiser, but all the short/red zone/goal line/first down oriented ones may stack up to a better short yardage back then slamming em all into bruiser.

The blocking veteran points kinda suck in my opinion.

Well gee, what's the makeup of your FB? Does he do a lot of goal line rushes? Then invest in the Goal Line vet stats, maybe the ones that decrease the odds of fumbling too.

But if you're just a pure blocker, then you're better off going with the standard stat boosts and maybe going with one or two specialist vets; Goal Line, 3rd/4th Down, etc.

No idea, I'm having the same issue.

STR/BLK vets look like the only real option, with MAYBE the Goal Line one.

Well, here's how Goal Line Back reads:

Goal Line Back - This player has a nose for the endzone. Each level of Goal Line Back gives a +1% to strength, agility, and carrying on Goal Line plays inside the 5 yard line, when playing HB or FB.

TO me that means it will help with blocking as well, as there's no mention of needing to have the ball.

How many abilities to choose from are you all seeing? I'm at level 40 and have 41 to choose from, but in another forum folks are saying that there are 55 abilities to choose from. Does it vary by position?

There are 55, same for everyone. If you put points into something and maxed it already, though, it disapears.

Lots of exciting stuff to puts points in for most positions, but sadly not for FBs it seems. On at least one team I'm on, I have both the FB and the power HB, so my FB isn't being utilized as a power back either. For a pure blocker there's not a whole lot one can do.

+% to strength/agility/blocking is a possibility, but seems to me like 80+ strength and 55+ blocking is enough really.
Clutch is a possibility, but I wonder if that's not more of a skill position thing? i.e increases chance to catch, break tackles etc. Unsure about that.
Red Zone Freak seems quite nice though, seeing as any FB whether rushing or blocking would be on the field a lot inside the red zone.

I have 16 and I think the best will be

MR first down and bruiser/wow

maybe 10 in bruiser or workout warrior
6 in MR first down?

My FB now has +41% break tackle (with VA and AE).

The trouble with Red Zone Freak is it's essentially only a chance to get a boost, not a solid boost. So at low levels it's not going to do much at all. For blocking backs, the Goal Line Back seems the best IMO, along with the single attribute modifiers.

Good SAs for FBs:

Bruiser
Clutch
Goal Line Back
Mr. First Down
Red Zone Freak
Short Yardage Monster
Tenacious

My FB is built to primarily rush in short yardage and goal line so I'm going to max out Clutch and Bruiser first.

what about Quick?

Quick
This player is quick on his feet. Each level of the Quick ability gives a +1% bonus to the agility

Eh, to be honest I don't much care for the generic VAs like that but by sheer virtue of them being as generic as they are they will always be popular.

I'd rather have the more situational VAs as they provide larger bonuses; so long as the situation is one my FB commonly finds himself in.

A good example would be clutch. My team's offensive AI has a very high percentage of bringing my FB on to the field for short yardage (three yards or less) on 3rd downs and goal lines. That makes short yardage monster, goal line back, and clutch extremely useful for me.

And bruiser is just great because it's bruiser. As FB breaking tackles may be more important than any other stat in getting the W.

Unfortunately, like every other thing about FBs, there are probably several viable options for your Vet choices. It depends on your player, their goals, and what you expect to give your team.

Me? I'm suppressing the urge to invest a few points into Motivational Speaker. But maybe that's because I feel like my back would be on the sideline trying to keep people's head in the game. Yeah, crazy, I know.

Don't. Have the team's punter do it. Ideally, he's off the field more than everyone else.
