Does goalline work alright against a team who just loves to strong I you up the right side? Is it safe enough if they make an occasional pass out of it? We outlevel this team by 9 overall scouting points...we don't expect to lose, but I was just wondering if anyone has tried this.

agreed... sometimes you can bet the farm by blitzing both safeties if scouting shows they always run there

I don't know if that's what I would run...but the right answer will actually depend quite a bit on the personnel that you have. The type of action you get from LDE and NT have a tremendous effect on how to defend the strong I well. There are even some 4-2-5 and 3-3-5 defenses that can be very effective against the strong-I offtackle play, if you have the right personnel in place.

One team ran Goalline D vs. Strong-I all game. The other team knew it and ran a Strong-I pass play.
The Goalline D almost held due to massive pressure, but the other team managed to get enough passes completed to the completely wide open HB for enough long TDs to win the game.
So, in short, the goalline D almost stopped an offense running a play that should have shredded the D.

Goalline D is last season's strong I defense. I'm sure most teams have a strong I pass in the playbook and call on it sometimes to burn those goalline defense teams (if many teams still play goalline against strong I all the time)
I agree with Deathblade on the best way to stop the run. Having the SS up on the line and shifting the LBs seems to be the best way to get pressure. Got to have the right personnel for it though, as others have said.
