A system for ranking (used in ranking chess player for example) that take into account who you play. If you beat a team with a much higher ELO number you will gain more points than if you beat someone below you. If someone below you beats you, you will lose more points than if a higher level beats you.

The only problem with a system like this and the RPI system is that you need a statistically significant set of scores before the rankings really start to fill out right.

This is interesting though, it will be fun to see how it plays out during the season.

It's not perfect, and I wish I had a good rating system that took into account scores. I like the Elo ratings better than the RPI. But it really doesn't deviate much from the records, so its not too useful right now. By the end of the season we will have a true round robin, so records will be fine.

Yeah lol. How are the Tallahasse Tigers over EZ Company when EZ is the best team in the whole league haha. Hey don't get me wrong. I'm happy if my team is above the best.

Elo doesn't look at score. That's a huge factor, it only looks at who won vs. who. 2 points in Elo is very insignificant. I can't find any software that does power rankings based on points. EASY COMPANY has played teams that were 4-8 against teams other than them, and Tallahassee's opponents are 5-7. Wins over Seattle and Texas are more impressive than EASY's wins (until you look at the score). Dallas's opponents are 8-4 against other teams. Unfortunately, they played their best teams early (before they had a high rating). It takes a while to work itself out.

It is very easy to figure out. EZC was at 1647 and beat a team that was at 1585. Tallahasee was at 1647 and beat a team that was at 1616. An ELO rating is only based on the ELO rating of the competition that you beat or lose to. Simple as that. Over time the ELO rating gets more accurate since it is similar to the way to do a RPI rating.
