I mean... there are some good players CURRENTLY out there at high levels that didn't slow build obviously... but do you think that a player can be successful in the future made from scratch even if not slow built?

well the good players didn't need to slow build, cause most people from the first season probably didn't do it.
i think players that don't slow build can be successful, but the system currently gives an advantage to slow building.

depends what you mean by slow build...some positions are better for it than others. wasting a bunch of points is going to hurt you no matter what.

slow building is not necessary for a great build, you can be top 10% without it because most slow builders are idiots (no offense, peeps). just make good use of soft capping and build intelligently and you are good to go.

If you train intelligently enough then you should still be OK.
Also if you are lucky enough to get SAs in advanced equipment, you can boost them and have 10+ in two SAs with all the equipment. This might ultimately give you an edge.

Hi.
Really, that's not just slowbuilders, that's everyone. Look across any team and you can probably find at least 3 or 4 builds who have no business being there, slowbuilt or not.
Slowbuilding while in the d-league will probably become a necessity (mainly because its the d-league and really, do you care how you do there?), but once you get onto human teams, intelligent training and ideal use of SPs will keep your build competitive.

I didn't slow build my DT and I feel like he's definitely the best DT in my league and will be a lot more dominating next season.

In the end, the difference between slow building or focusing on getting your skills to the softcap is a few SP, isn't it? I don't see it as a necessity at all.
What's necessary is to max your major skills early on. Whether you do it by slow building your player or not doesn't make a huge difference IMO.

The real advantage for most slow build teams is not necessarily the slow build itself, but the direction in how they all build and the direction they get from the owner and DCs (building an LT to be an LT, a ROLB to be a ROLB.) A slow built team built crappy will still be crappy. A normal build team with proper direction will be good.

People overlook the value of training, in my opinion.
I see so many builds who take all their attributes to 30 right away. Level 15, and you're out of training options already? Come on!
Don't need to slowbuild. Just need to be smart.

My level 9 DE and level 9 WR would do very good amongst the same levels because they slowbuild. My level 27 FS would do OK against the same levels because he didn't slowbuild (and he's my first player who I invested too many SPs in). If I had slowbuilded my FS he would have like 10 more speed, 10 more agility, 10 more vision, etc.

slow building isn't necessary but cap focused building is. Also it is somewhat positional. A DT or C who can roll a very high number in one category and get to the first cap by level 3 without slow building is easier to build on capped focus than a position like WR or CB where skill points are distributed fairly evenly and there isn't a big auto level sp bonus for any attribute.

The big advantage of slow building is you can take 3 - 4 seasons where you have a team that doesn't care about competing right away. They are going to run offensive and defensive schemes to maximize the number of plays in a game and get everyone max xp. No points are put into SAs or stamina and if it is done properly the players can be monsters.
