I haven't used any of my original 15 SP and my kicking has started at 21. I was thinking about training my kicking all season and save my SP up since I wont be kicking any FGs but still getting XP.

Is this a good idea? If so, how long should I do it?

Well, if you focus on training kicking only, normal, and you're not getting any play time then I see nothing wrong with training like that. If you start leveling though and getting decent playtime (or decide to train on intense) you should probably cap your kicking.

There's no hard and fast rule of train for x amount of days or until you reach X level. You never want to continue to train an attribute when you could earn more from the level bonus. And since a kicker's level bonus on kicking is +1, then if you're not earning at least a +1 in kicking per level you're losing Skill Points. If you get to the point where you have enough to second cap kicking, then you're going to have to be earning at least 2 SP per level through training to avoid losing SP. Does that make sense?

With a K or P you need to cap as fast as you can. It is well worth it. You should be able to cap it at level 2 (!!!). Thus get to 60 at level 6, and 68 at level 9. Using the fill-bar trick, that's 70 at level 10 -> 82 at level 22, 88 at level 30, and you'll get to 100 base at level 52. If you can get lv40 equip, that's 4 pieces at +6, then +6 custom = 130 kicking without ever spending more than 3:1, and only investing your d-league in your first attribute. Rofl slowbuilds :-D

You're 1 behind with that roll though, you need a 23+ to cap at level 2, I believe.
