A little later than usual due to the college football slowing me down. Some good games this week and it looks like there's some even better one's coming up.
1 (2) Black Watch (5-1)
Black Watch return to the top of the rankings after a 2 week absence thanks to victory in a defensive battle against Woodridge. They went into the game as favourites and delivered in a low scoring affair, in which only one offensive TD was scored. The defense looked very impressive as they held the Lumberjacks to only 3 FG's, while the solid running from Tavares Lett allowed them to control the clock. They don't have time to celebrate as reiging champions, Paris will be looking to knock them off their perch in their exciting week 7 matchup.
2 (3) Paris Philarmonic (5-1)
Paris perhaps may have expected to beat Chicago more convincingly but a win's a win, and other than giving up a 79 yard TD pass play, their defense is looking in very good shape. I'm interested to see whether they can contain the high scoring Black Watch offense when they face off next as they attempt to move atop the rankings.
3 (4) London Minotaurs (5-1)
The Minotaurs pass D performed as advertised in a huge victory over the Monarchs this week as they took out the final undefeated team in Alpha. Despite giving up 3 passing TD's, the Minotaurs allowed only 1 completion to the explosive Jon Horton, despite him being passed to on 14 occasions as well as holding Monarchs starting QB, Chase Daniel to under 30% completion. Their run game continued to work nicely as they were just shy of 250 yards, picking up 2 TD's in the process. The Minotaurs will look to pile on the misery for 2-time champions Woodridge in another huge week 7 game.
4 (1) London Monarchs (5-1)
The Monarchs drop 3 places after a largely disappointing performance against new local rivals London Minotaurs. The defense was unable to contain their opponents and nothing was happening in the passing game. First place is now wide open with four teams tied for the top spot. The Monarchs will look to take advantage of the fact that the top 3 all face more difficult matchups this week, but they won't be taking the Mercs for granted when they face them next.
5 (8) Dinas Mawddwy Red Bandits (4-2)
The Red Bandits came out on top in an exciting game against the Warriors, shutting them out in the second half and holding their rushing attack to only 55.5 yards. A 60.5 yard punt return for the go ahead touchdown, early in the 4th quarter was enough for the win which leaves them with a 4-2 record and only a game behind the teams in 1st place. The Red Bandits face a potential banana skin against an FTA side that are capable of exploding offensively next.
6 (5) Wembley Warriors (4-2)
Wembley were on the wrong side of a close one this week as they went down to the Red Bandits. 1st down rushing was the Warriors' downfall as they often found themselves going backwards. The defense continues to perform well while they try to find the right approach for their offense to work. A matchup with Carthage should be exactly the sort of situation for them to get something going.
7 (6) Woodridge Lumberjacks (3-3)
Woodridge loses their 2nd in a row after defeat to Black Watch. Another lacklustre offensive performance will concern the Lumberjacks, and they'll need to be on top of their game against a strong Minotaurs defense in their next game. Should they be defeated, they will have lost 3 in a row for the first time in their 5-year tenure in the Pro's.
8 (11) Berlin Blitzkrieg (2-4)
I'm going out on a limb and moving Berlin up another 3 places, making them the only side in the top 8 with a losing record. As I've mentioned in previous weeks, they haven't had it easy in their schedule so far. A victory against a Stuttgart side with playoff ambitions showed that they are definitely better than their start to the season has suggested.
9 (7) Stuttgart Nighthawks (3-3)
Stuttgart lost out in OT to Berlin, after surrendering a 10-point lead in the 4th quarter. Despite being outgained by their opponents, the Nighthawks had gone into the 4th quarter up 24-14, after converting 2 turnovers into 14 points, while they found holes in the Berlin defense to run for 200 yards. They have a difficult run-in coming up and if they manage to go 2-4 or better in their next 6 games then they might still be in shape to make a playoff push at the end of the season.
10 (9) Fightin' Texas Aggies (2-4)
FTA drops a place despite beating Aberdeen in another close one. They look to put their nightmare start to the season behind them and have a chance to get themselves above .500 if they perform well in their next 3 games.
11 (13) Chicago Rocks (2-4)
Although they didn't actually win, Chicago responded well to their mauling at the hands of Black Watch last week, with a spirited performance against Paris. They get a chance to pad their stats against Toledo before going up against Wembley the following week.
12 (11) Aberdeen Wrecking Crew (1-5)
Aberdeen managed to improve on offense this week, however they still found themselves on the end of defeat by a margin of 4 points. They'll face a difficult challenge next against a Berlin side that is on the march up the rankings.
13 (14) E-City Mercenaries (2-4)
The Mercs pick up a desperately needed win against fellow strugglers LCWD, to halt a 3-game losing skid. It'll give them a confidence boost, but that surely won't be enough to get them anything from the next 4 games in which they have probably the leagues most difficult schedule during that time.
14 (12) Lake Charles Who Dats (1-5)
Lake Charles drops their 5th game in a row and fail to take advantage of the Mercs miserable start to the season.
15 (15) Carthage Army of Darkness (1-5)
Carthage wins their first game of the season. Unfortunately for them it'll probably be their last.
16 (16) Toledo Swords (0-6)
Unsurprisingly defeated in the Alpha 'Basement Bowl'
1 (2) Black Watch (5-1)
