I have come to believe that speed and agility are far more important to become a good lead blocker.

Looked like poor LBs and a poor defensive calls to me. Speed and agility have always been important to a blocking FB, I still wouldn't say they're of prime importance though. It's all situational TBPH, a quick/fast FB will shine on some occasions and a strong/block FB will shine on others.

Can't use those plays and come to that conclusion. I mean, great you were able to get 10 yards down the field to get the block, but play a better defense and that speed isn't anywhere near as important to lead blocking.

Now in saying that, I've built my own FB with some speed/agi just because I wanted to make sure he could get out in front to make the block, specially on OT and pitches but it is still going to be behind str and blocking.

Lead Blocking FBs don't need STR. They need SPD/AGI/BLK. I honestly thought that was common knowledge. The Rushing FBs are the ones who want STR so they can break tackles.

So what? What do pancakes matter? I'd rather hold a block for 5 seconds than knock somebody down any day.

Pancakes matter as much as holding a block for 5 secs when lead blocking... both are situational. Most times the HB runs by the FB far before he lets go of a block, so basically as long as you can hold a block for a second or two, it doesn't make any difference in most situations. Just as getting a pancake and moving on to a second block, very rarely happens.

The one thing that strength has over blocking, when leading the way, is it helps you clear a lane. Which with the recent changes is HUGE. Less chance for the HB to get caught in a pile and slow down.

You can go ahead and keep your 5 sec blocks at the point of attack, I'll keep my 3 sec blocks (where I drive the defender completely out of the lane).

Pancakes are the most overrated stat on GLB.

Understanding the point, seems a bit overrated IRL.

Indeed. If you've ever watched some of the NFL's best FBs (Lawrence Vickers, Ovie Mughelli), they drive their opponents back, but they don't actually move their opponents' feet. They just basically shove their upper bodies away from the intended hole so the HB can pass by without being tackled. That's what a FB on GLB should do, too; get to the point of attack and hold it.

So we're having a hypothetical discussion, on what a GLB FB should do, now? Silly me, I thought we were talking about the benefits of speed and agility, compared to other attributes, for a GLB FB...

That was the point. You have to get to the point of attack before you can hold it, so SPD+AGI are important.

I agree i do not feel pancakes are that important but i do feel strength is still important because if a defender such as a DT can just bull rush you and plow over you

Just so you know, the Bull Rush completely fails in all situations.

So you need high speed and agility (in relation to your other attributes), to run 3 yards and make a block? Do you even think these thoughts over, before posting them?

No one said that speed and agility weren't important for a FB, I wouldn't say they're the most important attribute for one though. If I had to rate attributes for a FB...

#1 strength
#2 agility
#3 speed
#4 Carrying/blocking
#5 vision

Strength isn't as effective as it should be, but it's still most important IMHO. One cannot open a hole with just speed and agility. Let me reiterate the point of how important making a wide lane is... now that HBs are slowed down by player congestion.
