Greetings,

I've come to ask for the help of the pros who have been around for a while and know what it takes to have a team at the highest level of competition.

I'm the owner of a Western Europe AA team which was gutted just before I took it over at the just before the beginning of last season. I've been able to rebuild to some degree and staff it at all positions. We won a handful of games and ended up in 12th place last season.

After reviewing the schedule, I see that there are 3 games on our schedule that are winnable. We've had a few losses of key players when their agents got their own teams. In addition, recruiting has been even harder this season than last season because of all the new teams. I was a player around level on the FA wire 30 that claimed to have over 150 offers. I can't even get low-level guys to join my Slow-build reserves this season while last season I had a ton of requests to join it. the GMs and I have been going nuts recruiting but have had only very, very little success. I thought the FA market was nuts last season but this season it's out of control.

I was wondering if anyone here would be able to help, for which we'd be extremely grateful. Perhaps you have a player that you'd be willing to do a cash trade that would improve the squad, even if it's only for a season. Perhaps you have players or know of someone who does that could bolster the squad. Tips and suggestions would be appreciated as well.

Thanks in advance and thanks for reading all this!

I might as well comment here

You may only have three winnable games on paper, however try and reassess your tactics and see how you can improve them. Most tight games and upsets all come from tactics. I am sure your tactics are not horrible, but when you look at your team and see that there is a high chance of being relegated, then you should reassess your tactics first.

Secondly, how do you recruit? From observations, the best way to recruit is to recruit people close to your league level (or just below), not go and recruit for the match winning player unless you are a good team. Players don't want to join teams to get slaughtered every week. It's also best to get in early before the player has made their mind. It depends on how determined you are to recruiting, on method is to record what players are availible and every thirty minutes, see if any more availible. Once they are, send them a details private message which describes your team, what your aims are, what their role is and do it in a friendly manner. Sure, being professional is nice, but we want to join a team and be friends with everyone. It is also easier to recruit a group of friends, rather than one or two people.
NOTE: Would like to see how everyone else recruits and how successful it is.

And lastly, most people on here already have their reserves on friends teams. However after a few weeks, they upgrade their player and have a player or two free, so keep your eyes out for these players and ask whether they can join your team for the rest of the season.

Well this is all I can suggest for the moment. Other than this, if your not planning on spending too much time on this game scouting your opponent and doing tactics, or have GM's that can do this, sell your team before it gets too bad. Most WEPL owners (And GMs) spend hours scouting teams, looking at weaknesses and strengths, researching into tactics on the forums, discovering what is getting nerfed, what has been working for other teams and developing the team. Being an owner is NOT easy and never think for a moment that it will be a walk in the park.

Thanks for the advice, larkis.

Tactics are definitely a place the GMs and I can make some improvements, especially with the new additions.

As for recruiting, what I've been going after are guys that are a level or two ahead of the guys they would be replacing, depending on their build. I don't usually PM much but checking and PMing right away seems like a great plan and I'll try that.

I'll be getting on throughout the entire season and looking for improvements at virtually every position in case anyone comes up available.

Thanks again! Good advice, and indeed, owning a team is nothing like a walk in the park, unless the park happens to be in antarctica.
