I was planning on making a power-based running back, but only had the points to make a FB initially. I figure that a strength based runner would also be a good blocker, but I'm really interested in being more productive on the run rather than blocking. Is it worthwhile to stick with the FB position, or should I just make a HB?

A well built halfback of the same level will always be better than you.

FBs have the luxury of dumping wayyy more points in strength than an even level HB. So expect to be slow, expect to be strong, and expect those two and three yard runs that even a well built half back of the same level wouldn't be able to get.

For a bruising power runner, the HB has the edge. Better SA trees for running and better attribute increases per level (blocking doesn't raise, but speed does IIRC). The benefits of having a FB power runner is... more effective blocker on passing situations and can also be the back-up FB.

The FB always has 1 less blocker than a HB would. So no, not really.

Not if he's in the HB spot and the team has two FBs.

I think the game linked below should answer your question. On paper I actually predicted a loss for us (New Berlin).

http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=220395

23 rushes, 178.5 yards, 4 TDs, and 23 broken tackles. What more could an "inferior" FB hope for?

2 rushes for 100 yards and 21 rushes for 78.5 yards... the opponent team was pretty bad as well.

Not saying that a FB can't do "ok", running from the FB spot, but you have to look at it objectively. A FB will more than likely have success from the HB spot, due to having a lead blocker (instead of having to rely on breaking a billion tackles, playing a poor team and/or getting lucky to have a good game).

Did you even take into account my New Berlin team? We're a slow build team with a lower average level. We weren't supposed to do that. Plus that team has a plethora of players in the high 20s and early 30s.

Like I said, when I game planned for that game I counted it as a loss for us (New Berlin).

Does Positional Penalty apply to FB running in HB spot?

If it does, it's not very noticeable.

Kavadas,

Levels mean very little in this game... it's pretty much potential. If you have two level 20's and both have similar builds (except one has 10 points in a fairly useless attribute/SA), it's like a level 18 vs a level 20.

That team was bad, based on the plays I watched. Not taking anything away from you either, just an opinion. My FB put up almost 300 yards one game (with a 17 YPC average), that doesn't mean he should be running the ball against decent teams, as the primary rushing threat anyways.

I think you are either a "FB kind of guy" or a "HB kind of guy" ...
Probably HB's will run better ... but if you prefer FBs, like me, then who cares ??

My FB averages 100yds per game this season, and 4 pancakes per game as well.

In two 89+ point victories and it's only ~84 YPG. Like I said, FBs running is fine against weak teams... once you get going against good teams, a FB comes in second to a HB power build. The FB rusher is a little more versatile in the HB spot though, by being able to block on passes very well and by backing up the #1 FB.

My FB is a rushing FB and has over 3000 career yards. Though he's been on the decline since his record year in season 4, due to our HBs getting better and shifting our gameplan. He's still very capable at grinding out those tough yards when needed and still blocking decently.
