Since most plays are ran out of the I formation what are some of the best defenses to stop these runs and passes? Does anyone even bother with setting up defense outputs with I (Any Formation)?

Oh, Hell yeah.

I need to get all my D's set before I try to digest any new plays, but, of course I plan against the 'I.'

yeah, it's just so many plays I was trying to figure out a few base set that work very well for the I.

You can't game plan for formations as much as before. Down and distance are a much larger consideration now.

I plan on retooling all of my inputs based on that.

That's the consensus right now. I know I've nuked my old playbooks, and welcome the challenge of what real DC'ing should be like.

Sure, it'll be a bitch at first until we see how the new preset D's work, just how viable the +vis boost for the zone D's goes, and a few other X-factors.

But once that dust settles and I have a good idea of how my D players are going to work in different setups, I think it should be a good time - down/distance > formation this season for sure.

I mentioned in another thread that when it was Strong 'I' on 3rd-and-2, I stacked "8 in the box" against the off-tackle run. That, in essence, is what's gone away. I'll still play the run on 3rd-and-2 ... and hope I'm not going against Wannstedt calling a halfback option pitch to the outside.
