What the hell is going on there? It doesn't say I dropped it, just incomplete somehow...even though it looks like he hit me right in stride. That cost me an 83 yard TD.

Based on your attributes and the path of the ball, your WR didn't think he could catch it so he didn't try.

hmmm...is that a confidence thing? because he obviously could have caught that.

You don't know if your WR definitely could of caught it as the replays are only shown in 2D so that ball could've actually been hitting the ground just behind your WR.

Loads of WRs have plays like this and Bort is working on fixing it. But what he has said is that whenever the ball is thrown to your WR he makes a "can I catch it" check based on his attributes such as catching, jumping, vision, whatever else affects his catching and possibly SAs. If your WR doesn't think it's possible to catch it he won't attempt to. I don't think it's a confidence thing.

So confidence doesn't affect his thinking of whether or not he can catch the ball? It seems to make sense that more confidence would lead to him thinking he could catch more difficult balls. I guess only Bort knows for sure so it's possible I'm completely wrong, but it makes sense to me.

In real life that would be true as you'd be confident in your abilities. But in GLB confidence only really affects how fast you lose morale if for instance you drop a ball.

No, it's not a confidence thing as far as I know. I was pretty involved in that huge bug thread about this particular problem, and it only happens to very fast WRs. The WR is too fast for the sims "ticks" which are like moments in time. For a WR to catch the ball, he has to make a "Can I catch it" check, then he'll attempt to the catch. What happens if you're too fast is the ball is thrown and the tick right before it gets to your WR, he makes the check, and the ball is too far. Then, in the very next tick, your WR is so fast that he actually outruns the ball ever so slightly to the point where when he makes the "Can I catch it" it is too far behind him to even attempt the catch.

So basically imagine the "ticks" as seconds or something, and actions can only be made on those ticks. Your WR is so fast that the ball never reaches your "can I catch this" radius. One tick before, the ball is too far behind, one tick later, you have already moved so far that you don't even attempt to make the catch.

It sounds pretty complicated, but that's how I understood it. If you want to read the thread, it's in the bugs forum "WR incompletion case study" or something like that.

oh ok that all makes sense, thanks both of you. sounds like i need to work on making my "can i catch it" area bigger to counteract these goofy plays where i over run the ball.
