i came here to post that same question. made sense to me, so i bought the equip. then i read that the details of that SA only mention CB's. is this useless on a DE if he's not playing CB?

Put your DE in at CB, and it will work great.

I don't know, I saw another post that closing speed was good for a linebacker. It just makes effect with a DB?

Any SA with a specified position only works at that position, like Field General.

Closing speed is not a position specific SA
It should "work", but I'm not sure how far away you have to be to get it to engage.

It is *not* a good SA for linemen. It increases speed and agility when the ballcarrier is behind the defense...when you are chasing a guy down from behind. While DEs do that on rare occasion, they don't do it enough to need to spend a piece of advanced eq on it. I don't think I'd even buy closing speed for a linebacker.

I'm not sure if that is entirely accurate. I have it on my FS, who is in on kickoffs and punts and it works very well (the defender is in front of him). It also works when the offense calls a run and he has to dash in from 10-15 yards out. Again, the ball carrier is in front of him.

Perhaps this is a question for Bort or an admin? Might take a bit to get an answer out of them but it'll be worth hearing it from someone who knows, rather than speculation. I'm very interested as well as Closing Speed seems to be a very useful SA (and one you can actually *see* working). The nature of the description makes it very difficult to know for sure if your DE starts out far enough away for the ability to kick in.

speculation. none of that is in the description.

How do you know for sure that you're getting a bonus from closing speed on kickoffs and returns, dead poet? What if that's just your normal speed and agility?

I did somewhat misread it when I assumed it only kicks in when the ballcarrier is behind the defense. I have definitely seen it kick in in that case. But it was never something I thought much about before, I'll have to pay closer attention when I see guys getting chased down from behind.

Only way I can tell is that there are guys on kicks and punts with higher speed/agility than my FS, yet he always, without fail, gets to the ball carrier first. I have no other explanation for that other than Closing Speed. I'm certain it works when chasing a player from behind but I'm pretty certain it is in effect in other situations, as described above.

The question is, though, will it be effective for a DE when rushing the passer? That I'm not so sure about. I'd really like for it to work though.

I've been meaning to ask this same thing. In theory, combined with Tunnel Vision, this could be a great thing to have once you've upgraded it a few times.

So is there a verdict? I just got a +2 Str +1 Closing Speed on my DT. Obviously yay on the str, but if the closing speed can be a help, the 57K might be worth it.

Unfortunately I don't think there's going to be a verdict unless we get a direct answer from Bort or an admin. OR if someone tries it, upgrades it and posts results if they've seen a marked improvement or indications of the ability working.
