+3% chance to catch ball cleats. Not taking into consideration the hard path to upgrade special equipment, does +3% chance to catch sound worthwhile?

nope, hold out for either a +5% + attribute, or an SA + attribute, or a +3 attribute piece.
They, imo, are the only ones worth picking up.

I say go for it. I've bought 3 pieces of equipment for my WR to combine for +6% catch ball chance, +1 sticky hands SA, +1 jumping and +2 strength.
I think the +3% catch ball chance is just what the sticky hands SA does, increase the % chance of catching the ball.

That's a logical connection, I like that hypothesis! Would make sense.
As for holding out for +5% etc, by the time I'm high enough level to get that type of gear, I won't have enough seasons left to accrue upgrades for it to make it better than my normal equipment.

Its just a dice roll though, im pretty sure you can still get it at a lower level, its just rarer.

Oh, I have only seen +1 attributes or the 3% increase thing while shopping. Figured the gear in the shop just got better as I got higher in level, good to know that I might randomly roll better gear at this level.

if you got the cash no harm in buying the 3% but i'd hold off on upgrading it for awhile. it's just like if you bought a new peice of regular gear, you can upgrade it all at once so reason to rush something that's supposed to be for 7 seasons just to make your stats a tiny bit better for half of 1 season.

It's worth it. Upgrading the SA at lvl 16 and 32, makes your Catch SA +3. That means you get 7SP more minimum.
If you have base 4 one hand catch, you get +13 SA worth, Compare that to +5 at lvl 32. Which are +15 SA at 3 sp per point.
If you have less then 60 in an att, go for the SA.
If you have more then base 4 in 1 hand catch, go for the SA
