I know this isn't a GLB issue. Or, for that matter, even sports related. But, I thought let's get this going to get some fire back into this forum!

I'm sure that some will disagree with me on this but I think that Obama is damned if he does. Damned if he doesn't, with this whole VP thing.

If he stays with Joe Biden the he is sticking with a guy who has publicly questioned his decision making. (Hillary would have been a better choice for VP)

If he does do the October surprise as some are predicting and drop Biden and add Hillary to the ticket. Then he is once again showing that he goes with which ever way the wind blows. He would then be once again showing himself as a flip flopper. Let me be clear, I'm not sure of the legality of this second option... If it's even possible to do this, this late in the race. They would have to change all the ballets and all of that jazz. I'm not sure there would be enough time to do that.

You're right, neither are great options. Not to mention that Biden's vaunted experience advantage over Palin doesn't seem nearly as much of an asset when he keeps making enormous gaffes and saying ridiculous things or things that contradict Obama's stance on issues.

Who the fuck cares about who becomes president? Whoever it is, they will just do the same shit is all the other ones do. What I'm concerned about is the $700 billion that congress is using to bail out filthy-fucking-rich people who made bad business decisions. Hell, why don't they just pay off my god damn car loan??? What are the people we vote for doing about this shit?? I can't wait to see what the dollar does after the government spends another trillion dollars we don't have.....

I'm really really pissed about this. I'm actually going to email my senator and congressman for the first time in my life. I suggest you do the same.

I think most people have come to the conclusion that a president is a figure head with no real say on anything. Even the judges appointed to the supreme court are put there to keep their party happy.

I think that both asses and elephants would both agree that this fanny and Freddie thing is a bunch of shit! I already have called my congressman and senators office to show my displeasure!

Not to say you people are idiots.. But it should matter to you who becomes president because they are, in fact, very important.

They may not make all of the decisions, but if a Supreme Court Justice dies, they decide who takes his place.. For life. That's just one example. They can also veto bills, send them back through congress, etc. They do have a very important role in our government, the American people just don't quite see it.

And i totally agree with all of you who are ranting about the $700B bail out. But it's not all about the rich people.. It's helping those who made poor decisions with their money, regardless of what social class they were in, and lost a lot. So, in effect, it's not only going to cost us lots and lots of money, but also our children in the future. We'll feel the effects of this bill for a long time.
*and the strangest part is, Bush is in support of it.. This bill is very socialistic(a democratic ideal).. and it's very puzzling.
NObama. Go McCain/Palin.

middle class put us in this position. they got greedy and went out their and got houses they couldnt afford. so now they have to pay the 700 billion dollar tab.

plus the bailout is needed. those rich people who fucked us over are out. Lehman Brothers, AIG, etc are corportations, their not owned by just one individual or a few. its just like paying taxes to fund the local police department or fire station. we need them to stay alive.

Not surprisingly I disagree with you on both situations.

Federal Government put us in this position by getting so involved in the housing market and trying to create artificial booms by constantly cutting interest rates.

Bailout is not needed. Bailout is more government intervention, injecting cash into an unhealthy situation rather than letting the market adjust back to a healthy position. I say let it ride, and keep my 700 billion out of your damn projects.

Disagree. His influence is vastly overstated for sure, but he does have some impact. Primarily in guiding Congress via public perception and threat of veto, and appointments. And Justices have a very big influence on the way our country is run.

You touched on one of the most important parts of this election that some (not necessarily here) are overlooking. By the end of next year, there will be 6(!) Supreme Court Justices that are 70 or over (Stevens - 88, Scalia - 72, Kennedy - 72, Souter - 69, Ginsberg - 75, Breyer - 70). There's almost no chance that all of them will be there by the end of the next presidential term, be it by retirement or any other way. IMO, the SC is the most important part of our government, making the PUSA that much more important in this next term because he's going to wind up putting judges of his party into the Supreme Court system.

Not to mention all of the other social, economic, foreign affairs issues that they each face when elected.

Is anyone else truly undecided? There are things I like and dislike about each candidate but I can't yet commit myself to one or the other. I normally vote 3rd party because I'm not a fan of the 2 party system, but I don't think that's possible this time. Besides, I'm not voting for Babar (Bob Barr). I hope these debates help make up my mind!

I think you'll truly see the idiocy of Sen. Obama come out during these debates, and you'll decide which candidate is better: John McCain.

and PD:
Yes, the middle class did put us in this position. They overspent and got neck deep into credit card debt and couldn't climb out. This is going to cost a doctor friend of mine 20 grand on a clinic he owns. That's a pretty good size tax.
