I have noticed the FB on our team tends to block well when he has a short distance to go to block his target, however, on tosses and outside runs--where he has a much greater distance to run to block someone--he tends to whiff on his blocks.

I think it might be agility or vision because his seems kind of low.

Can anyone give me some advice.

Well,

I think its just the FB pathings for certain plays. Tell your OC to plan more OFF TACKLE plays in the AI. It goesaround the line like a pitch but there is no delay of the HB, and the handoff is quicker.

So if you are going against string DTs, and fast DEs/LBs. Its better to run an off tackle play. Plus the FB foes where he needs to. He either picks up the DE who is coming off the block, or he gets around to the LB. THen the HB stuck with the SS hisself...like rreal football

watching that clip hurts. i have a lb who was a lolb for many seasons before being made a rolb this season and watching a lb not being able to get off a fb hurts. lol.

do you have an example of a play where the fb whiffs blocks? that would help the analysis. it could be possible that it is a combination of vision, agility, or even speed or the defenders shed block and strength.

one thing i have noticed this season is that some speedy and strong de are being made olb in the 34 scheme, so not as easily blocked by fb.

Its not like he whiffs the block, but it seems as if a D-lineman is making it look like he is coming through the line, the FB would change direction and go after him, rather than lead the Hb around the line on a pitch play.

I'll do some research:
