Just wondering if anyone has any luck w/ putting alot of points into strength to begin a career, and then work on building up the main attributes (speed, catching, agility).

No, because STR doesn't increase at all for a WR. Better to put a lot in a skill that sees a decent increase each level up and get the bonus for it being over the soft cap.

Yeah and then when you have main skills up high you can start working on strength , better later on .

Was just thinking that if he is in a new league, might be a way to exploit alot of new cornerbacks in the league.

Probably used to be a better tactic than it is now.
Before, it would be a two-pronged advantage:
1. Your WR would run over any CB.
2. Your WR, forced to be slow, would be allowed to get open all the time.
Now, #2 is void. So IF your slow WR can get the ball, he will be able to exploit the CBs lack of strength. That said, it's not the smartest strategy in the long run.

i have 40+ strength and you can look at my stats to attest to its dominance.
but i gradually built it up as i leveled up

This is just a theory. Kind of hard to tell what strength actually does in games.
Both my WR's have about 30 strength and while my WR's are not dominating they hold their own.
Strength does help WR's but its not something you will notice. For one it helps with energy because weak WR's will get shoved around and lose energy faster. Number 2, stronger WR's will block better for their rushing plays and 3 its possible that after a catch they will break a tackle. Also strength may or may not help catch balls when a CB is on top of you. This would probably be something a posession wide out might have like strength+jumping to grab that ball so the CB wont deflect it.

Someone pointed out strength doesn't naturally increase with WR levels. I'm assuming it does naturally increase for CBs and safeties, can anyone confirm this? If it does naturally increase with the defenders then soft capping strength will probably be a waste in the long run because eventually the defenders will catch up in strength and eventually surpass you rendering that build ineffective since we don't get the natural level up for it.
That being said, I agree with skel, I'd imagine better blocks and pancakes would be a pro for high strength builds. You would have to be effective blocking to make up for the lack of stats in other areas. I'm trying the soft capped strength build on an experimental WR, if I find anything significant, I'll share.

It does naturally increase for CBs but only minimally with the other minor attibutes. I can't remember what they started at, but with my level 16 CB his strength, carrying and confidence are currently 13.75 and I've never put any points in them.

That's my Strength WR, it worked wonders in the lower leagues and didn't do to bad last season either but I didn't have a lot of yards because I'm so slow but I had a good amount of broken tackles.
Granted... I'm extremely slow and has a crap ton of drops but was still useful. And sadly I didn't get a lot of pancakes either, but I don't exactly remember the team I was on previously doing to well.
As stated, WR's don't gain strength per level up and we have no "power" tree, so it's not going to be to viable later on.
I plan on softcapping blocking next with my banked skillpoints and just block for RB's through the rest of it's career.

Muraske, try spending all your points to get your speed up to the second softcap and see how this works out rather than putting the points in blocking.

Now you just need to work on your issue with drops.

lol!
Also, 26 broken tackles from 90 receptions doesn't seem that impressive to me, my WR broke 9 tackles with only 11 strength last season. It seems like it's your other more traditonal WR attributes that make your WR productive.

High speed with a relatively high strength can be a deadly combination. Almost every time my WR broke a tackle this past season, it lead to a TD - hence his 20+ AVG for S4.
